A Little Sleep

A little sleep,
a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands..

A little too much chocolate,
a little too much cheese and wine,
a little too much indulgence..

Getting carried away.

Isn’t this how it always starts?
Isn’t that how we always get trapped?

The secret is always in the detail,
the little things of life,
daily habits and routines,
little temptations we can’t be asked to fight.

It is always in the things we chose to give in to,
the seemingly insignificant things we pay no attention to.

Too much carelessness.

It is in the way we look after what enters
our body, spirit, and soul.

It is in the way we treat our family and friends,
colleagues and strangers too.

It is in the things we consider to be unimportant,
of little value;
the very things we have taken for granted.

For a husband this might be taking out time to communicate with his wife.
Now, communication takes many different forms;
but the fact that communication takes place is of utmost importance!
But you don’t properly.. for a week.. or two..
soon arguments erupt, resentment builds up, accusation creeps in,
and you wonder where it all went wrong.

For friends it might be taking out time to be a bit more understanding.
Now, people are different. While some simply “click”, other pairs might have to put in a bit more effort.
No two relationships are the same; however, the foundation of them all are:
an understanding of and respect for the other.
But you fail to.. to understand the other’s persona(lity) properly, and misunderstandings spread.
Soon you look at your friend and find him not-so-friendly anymore.
You wonder what brought you two together in the first place.

For a Christian this might be his commitment to reading and studying the Word.
Now, applying it is a whole different ballgame;
but it does start with taking out time to at least read it.
But you don’t for a day.. or two.. or three;
and you lose count of when last you actually opened The Book,
or the awareness of the truths that it contains.

Such things don’t happen overnight, they happen with
a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands.

Their resolutions will work similarly..
With a little more effort here, a little more attention there,
all-together much more care!

Where have you fallen of failed?
Where did you step out because fatigue stepped in?

Decide to start with just one little step in the right direction:
walking and working towards a solution.
Eventually, it will go a mighty long way!
