We want to do this, we want to do that, but doors simply do not seem to open. The wind does not appear to blow in our favour. Things don’t simply mean to happen for us. Right? And so, we wait. We sigh, we complain, we murmur, we wait. We simply do nothing but stop, stand, and wait.
One of my favourite sayings by Benjamin Disraeli, however, states that
One secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes.
You do not prepare for battle when it arises, or for protection when threats come knocking at your door. You do not install a security system in the middle of an attack, or study during an exam.
The secret lies in preparing well in advance! Therein lies the difference between just making it, and succeeding: commitment, determination, preparation!
And this is my word for you this week.. be ready to work and PREPARE!
Whatever it is you are planning to do or are hoping to achieve in life; commit to it now: prepare! Do not wait for the “big breakthrough” before you decide to put your hands to the plough. Gather your resources now. Make new contacts now. Take courses now. Attend seminars now. Learn a new language now. Start writing short-stories/ poems/ books now. Build your repertoire now! Whatever it is you can do today towards achieving your vision, do it!
And never despise the days of little beginnings. Precept upon precept. Line upon line. Here a little, there a little (Isa 28:10). This is how strong and lasting foundations are built.
And, just as with Nehemiah (The book of Nehemiah) don’t expect everyone to support or cheer you while they watch you prepare. Sometimes it is a touch and lonely season of preparation. Be determined, be strong!
